In the Chechen Republic, the international scientific conference "Modern trends in low-carbon development: global and regional aspects" has ended at Grozny State Oil Technical University. Representatives of 17 carbon polygons of Russia gathered at one site. Andrey Bondarovich, an associate professor of the Department of Economic Geography and Cartography, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, took part in the conference.

The main theme of the event was climate change and adaptation to it. One of the most important areas of this work is the creation of carbon polygons - sites where scientists can measure the level of carbon emission under different tillage regimes.

In 2021, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation launched a pilot project to create carbon polygons in Russia to develop and test carbon balance control technologies. Such a landfill is planned to open in Altai Krai, the operator will be Altai State University.

“Our application is currently being reviewed by an expert council. We are of great interest to the general network of carbon landfills, namely our dry steppe zone, where we plan to place the landfill. Head of the Department of Radiophysics and Theoretical Physics of Altai State University, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Anatoly Lagutin is the scientific supervisor of the project. During the conference in Grozny, we visited “Way carbon” of A. Kadyrov, where we got acquainted with the main instrument base on which they work. There were colleagues from different regions - the Research Institute of Arctic Studies (Salekhard), the All-Russian Institute of Agrarian Problems and Informatics named after A. A. Nikonov, A. N. Severtsov Institute for Ecology and Evolution, the Oil Institute of Yugorsk State University, and others. The program was rich, we found many common interests. I would like to note the high level of organization of the conference and thank colleagues from Grozny State Oil Technical University,” Andrey Bondarovich shared his impressions.
