On September 16, within the framework of the V International Educational Forum "Altai-Asia 2022: Eurasian Educational Space - New Challenges and Best Practices", a round table "REC Activities: New Strategic Approaches to Network Cooperation in the Field of Turkic Studies" was held at Altai State University. The central issue of discussion was the elaboration of mechanisms for the implementation of the Concept of the historical and cultural unity of the Slavic and Turkic peoples of Russia and the countries of Central Asia, which was developed over the course of three years by the REC of Altaic and Turkic studies "The Greater Altai" within the framework of the project "Turkic world of the Greater Altai: unity and diversity of history and modernity."

The event was moderated by Sergey Zemlykov, Doctor of Law, Professor, Head of the REC for Altaic and Turkic Studies “The Greater Altai”, President of Altai State University. The speakers and participants of the round table became leading scientists in the field of Turkic and Altaic studies of Russian and Asian universities.

Sergei Zemlyukov, addressing the participants of the round table, noted:

“Today, given the geopolitical situation, in order to build integration ties between Russia and Asia, it is important for us not to lose those cultural and historical values and traditions that have been formed over thousands of years by the Slavic and Turkic peoples. Work on the formation of a scientifically based system of socio-cultural, worldview and other values and practices that confirm the historical and cultural unity of the Slavic and Turkic peoples of Russia and the states of Central Asia, which has been carried out by Altai State University for many years (and this includes joint research, conferences, expeditions, educational programs) is especially relevant and important today."

By deeply studying the history and culture of Russia and Central Asia, we are actually looking far into the future. Our REC "The Greater Altai" has been developing the Concept of Slavic-Turkic unity for about three years. It is based on the commonality of spiritual and ideological values and practices of the Slavic and Turkic peoples, the commonality of the epic, customs, crafts and other elements of culture, the commonality of the territory and states where these peoples lived. We are sure that the Concept acts as a social platform for the development of various forms of interaction and integration of the Turkic and Slavic peoples living on the Eurasian continent.

Yulia Lysenko, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies at the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University, added:

“Today, our task is to work out the mechanisms for implementing the Concept with colleagues from the universities of the Greater Altai, so that this work continues not only in Russian, but also in Asian universities.

Ivan Nazarov, Director of the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University, noted:

"The concept of Slavic-Turkic unity, which the staff of the REC “The Greater Altai” is working on, on the one hand, is of great practical importance, as it is aimed at building a positive interaction between the Slavic and Turkic civilizations. On the other hand, the concept itself can act as a theoretical basis for numerous modern studies in the field of history, culture, archeology, and ethnology."

Albina Zhanbosinova, Professor of the Eurasian State University named after M.V. J. Balasagyn, spoke about the significance of the developed concept. She emphasized that by looking back to our roots, we are building the most solid foundation for strong friendship, preserving traditions and new joint projects in various fields of science and life.
