On February 15, a concert tour of Altai Krai Folk Band of the Altai State University Youth Academic Chapel Choir took place in Biysk.

The program was called “Familiar Star”. Works by Alexandra Pakhmutova, songs by Altai composers, famous world hits and romances were performed on stage.

The concert lineup included 34 members of the choir, including Nikolai Lazovsky, Artistic Director and conductor and Vsevolod Zhukov, an accompanist.

The concert was attended by more than 700 residents of the city of Biysk: schoolchildren, students of the Biysk and Belokurikha branches of Altai State University, as well as city residents.

The concert was supported by the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of Biysk, and the branch of Altai State University in Biysk.

“The performance of the folk group from the Altai State University Youth Academic Choir at the City Palace of Culture was a real holiday. The event was held for the first time in the science city and united different generations: students of AltSU branches from Biysk and Belokurikha, high school students of educational institutions of the city, college graduates, veterans of various organizations of the city, and of course, the professional community of musicians. Everyone came to meet and spend moments of creative communication with the Altai State University choir. And it was a success! The audience sang along and was proud that a classical university pays great attention to the development of the creative potential of young people! Thanks to Sergey Bocharov, Rector of AltSU, Nikolay Lazovsky, Artistic Director and conductor, for the opportunity to get acquainted with the folk group and its musical creativity!” commented Sergei Malyukov, Director of the Biysk Institute (branch) of Altai State University.

“Since the beginning of the anniversary academic year, the Altai State University creativity center together with the chapel has held many events: online webinars, open lessons, live broadcasts as part of the anniversary concert season of the chapel, as well as large-scale concerts, such as the “Familiar Star” concert program in Rubtsovsk and Biysk, concert of three choirs of the Siberian Federal District “Young Voices of Siberia”. Such experience is important to us for the oldest university team, which is the hallmark of the university, to study the needs of modern youth and attract them to the art of singing, as well as to the university as a whole. At concerts, we not only demonstrate our talent, but also conduct career guidance, show videos about the university, and provide handouts of information. Concerts in the cities of Biysk and Rubtsovsk showed that choral art is interesting not only to the older generation, but also to university students, schoolchildren, students of music colleges and schools who attended the events. It’s also nice to see AltSU graduates who were once part of the choir at concerts in other cities. I would like to say a big thank you to our colleagues and branch employees for their help in preparing these concerts and the warm welcome,” commented Larisa Rogova, Director of the Center for Creativity and Leisure for students and employees of Altai State University.

The youth academic choir of Altai State University expresses its gratitude to Altai State University, the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of Biysk, the City Palace of Culture of Biysk, the Biysk Institute (branch) of Altai State University and the Center for Creativity of AltSU for organizing and holding the concert.
