Physicist from Altai State University gets to work using environmentally friendly transport

Teachers of the Institute of Digital Technologies, Electronics and Physics of AltSU promote science and new technologies by personal example.

Scooters have become a real trend this summer among young people; they can be used to quickly and, most importantly, environmentally friendly, move around the city. But even advanced students do not hide their surprise (and admiration!) when they see the bright green electric scooter that Tatyana Andrukhova, an assistant professor of the Department of General and Experimental Physics at the Institute of Digital Technologies, Electronics and Physics, rides up to work at building “K” of AltSU.

Tatyana smiles:

– As a physicist, I am of course not indifferent to technical innovations. That’s why I chose an innovative means of transportation – an electric scooter. It is also called an electric chopper, an electric bike. It accelerates to 50 km per hour, runs on battery power, and a charge lasts for about 50 km. It’s very convenient to ride around the city, the scooter is compact – a little larger than a bicycle, and so easy to control! You don't need a license to drive it.

She parks her vehicle at the porch of building “K” and hopes that in the near future there will be special parking lots for scooters, as well as for bicycles – it’s good if they are fenced so that the scooter is under reliable protection. So, for example, it is very convenient to install an electric chopper near the main building of our university; there is an enclosed university courtyard, but this building does not yet have such a site.

Tatyana Andrukhova says:

– Young people today actively support the trend towards environmental friendliness, and I, as a scientist, am very happy about this. One of my profiles is medical physics; in laboratories we not only study how medical equipment works, but also conduct experiments and tests. And we see, for example, that the air in the city center is often polluted, which, of course, affects both the environment and human health. Hopefully there will be more innovative transportation options in the future. Every year, many talented guys, real geniuses, from all over Altai Krai enter our institute. They study different areas of physics and, of course, many of them see themselves not just as scientists, but as innovators, those who will drive progress and create trends. After all, physics underlies any progressive developments.

Tatyana Andrukhova has been working at AltSU for 32 years. Sometimes it seems that time runs faster than any bike – you don’t have time to look in the mirrors on the sides. By the way, it is no coincidence that many generations of physics students call our heroine the “Queen of Mirrors.” In the laboratory, where exams are often held, she has placed mirrors so cleverly that she can see from another room everyone who is trying to cheat. She laughs:

- How else! Every physicist must be an inventor. I just think that you shouldn’t breathe down students’ necks, but you also shouldn’t lose control over them. As well as control on the road. I’ve got to go home to prepare assignments for tests.
