Olga Mironenko, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Director of the Altai Center for Applied Biotechnology of Altai State University became a guest of the “Katun up to date” program dedicated to the Day of Russian Science on the Katun 24 TV channel.

The discussion revolved around promising areas in biotechnology and plant breeding, the demand for innovations from industrial partners, the importance of supporting young personnel for Altai’s scientific progress, and financial instruments for supporting fundamental and applied research by the government. Olga Mironenko highlighted a shift in the focus of support from purely scientific research to the implementation of scientific results in the real sector of the economy, for example, within the framework of comprehensive scientific and technical programs.

Also, in recent years, a significant emphasis has been placed on cooperation between both scientific organizations and scientists and practitioners. Thus, Altai State University is developing cooperation with scientists from the Chuvash Research Institute of Agriculture and with the support of the Russian Science Foundation within the framework of the interdisciplinary project “Genetic resources of wild and cultivated hops (Humulus lupulus L.): screening, conservation, use in breeding”. This project has been investigating the diversity and potential use of hops for the past two years.

At the end of the meeting, Sergei Manskov, the program host noted that Olga Mironenko managed to dispel the stereotype of the scientist “Paganel” from Jules Verne’s works and combine the qualities of a researcher, manager and an engaging interlocutor.
