In Novosibirsk, the results of the fifth district hackathon of the project "Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial Intelligence" were summed up. In 2023, Altai State University acted as a partner of the hackathon and developed a task for the participants of the IT event.

On Sunday, October 1, a teleconference was organized at the Altai State University IT hub with the Novosibirsk Academgorodok, which became the main offline platform for the hackathon of the project "Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial Intelligence." Minister of Digital Development and Communications of Altai Krai, Evgeniy Zryumov, came to support the participants and congratulate them on the completion of the brainstorming session:

“The two-day marathon of the project "Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial Intelligence” came to an end. It once again showed that Russia is a country of opportunities. More and more programmers, university graduates, and those who solve various digital problems facing Russia are appearing in our country. I want to thank the participants who responded to solve such a non-standard problem. For Altai Krai, such events are a good tool for coordinating our common work, uniting teams and forming an IT community,” emphasized Evgeny Zryumov.

In total, 107 teams from all over the country took part in the hackathon. They developed solutions in five cases:

• “Auto-generation of text descriptions for videos”, the task by the Rutube;

• “Create an HR bot”, the task by Smart Consulting;

• “Analyze financial behavior”, the task by JSC Non-state pension fund “FUTURE”;

• “Load on the baggage handling system”, the task by Sheremetyevo International Airport;

• “Classification of images from camera traps”, the task by Altai State University.

Based on the results of the competition, 15 winning teams shared the prize fund of 3,000,000 rubles: for first place - 300,000 rubles, for second - 200,000 rubles, and for third - 100,000 rubles.

The case by Altai State University became the most popular - it was chosen by the largest number of participants.

“Our country has a large number of protected areas. Many of them are difficult to access or completely closed to tourists. Different species of animals live in the reserves, which scientists monitor through camera traps: they calculate the population and various other important indicators. The problem is the inability to control the quality of each camera trap image. Because the number of photographs from each of them amounts to several thousand per year, and viewing each photograph is problematic. Participants were asked to develop a software module using artificial intelligence technologies to classify photographs into high-quality and low-quality. As a result of creating such a solution, the amount of time spent on analyzing the received images received can be significantly reduced,” said Evgeny Zhuravlev, IMIT Director.

The following teams took prizes in the case by Altai State University:

1. Chikie$

2. BugBusters

3. Dynamical LR

“The task was very interesting. In order to achieve a good result, we made six models, and one hybrid. It was difficult, we managed to submit the task literally two minutes before the check-up. The defense went off with a bang, we won!” shared Nikita, a member of the team that took first place.

The team VASEK2 from Altai State University took third place in a special league for beginners. In addition, Roman Panarin, IMIT graduate student, and Head of the Computer Science Department Denis Kozlov took part as a jury member and expert. For two days, day and night, they advised the hackathon participants and assessed their solutions.

Note: The organizer of the project is the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. The operator of the competition is the ANO “Russia – the Land of Opportunities”, the general partner is the national video hosting RUTUBE. The hackathon is held within the framework of the federal project “Artificial Intelligence” of the national project “Digital Economy”. The main goals of the project “Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial Intelligence" is to create a system for selecting personnel to solve problems, to search, develop and support talented, promising specialists who want to create products and services using artificial intelligence technologies, increasing the level of provision of the Russian AI technology market with qualified personnel, as well as to form and develop AI communities, popularization, and development of products using artificial intelligence.
