Master’s degree student of the direction "Religious Studies" completed advanced training at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia

From 12 to 18 July 2021, Aylaana Mongush, a master's degree student in the direction of "Religious Studies" at Altai State University and a researcher at the Tuva Institute of Humanitarian and Applied Socio-Economic Research under the Government of the Republic of Tuva, took advanced training courses at the Russian University of Peoples' Friendship under the program "Buddhism in Russia."

This advanced training program was first developed at RUDN for specialists in the field of religious studies, employees of religious organizations and associations, analysts, employees of government and public organizations dealing with the theory and practice of Buddhism and other religions in Russia and other countries of the world. The Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation also took part in the development with the support of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Leaders and scientists from the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Fund for the Preservation and Study of the Native Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation acted as lecturers at the program. Students learned such disciplines (topics) as "Introduction to the study of religion", "World Buddhism", "Tibetan Buddhism: the origin and stages of development", "The history of the development of Tibetan Buddhism in Russia", "The place of Tibetan Buddhism in modern Russia and in the world "," State-confessional policy in modern Russia."

The group of course participants consisted of clergymen from Tuva, Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory, as well as specialists from the Center for the Prevention of Religious and Ethnic Extremism in Educational Organizations of the Russian Federation and researchers from the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Tuva Institute of Humanitarian and Applied Socio-Economic Research under the Government of the Republic of Tuva.

Aylaana Mongush emphasized:

“As a future specialist in the field of state-confessional relations, I was interested, in addition to knowledge about Buddhism from a scientific point of view, the historical forms of interaction between Buddhist communities and the state, the experience of state regulation of the activities of Buddhist and other religious organizations in Russia and the world. This is directly related to my professional activities. I, in turn, spoke about the religious situation in the Republic of Tuva, about the peculiarities of registration of religious organizations, the conduct of a religious examination by the Council under the Office of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tuva. Currently, I am preparing a master's thesis on the history of relations between institutions of state power and religious communities in Tuva during the Soviet period under the scientific supervision of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Regional Studies of Russia, National and State-Confessional Relations Pyotr Dashkovsky. In the future, I plan to continue my postgraduate studies in religious studies at Altai State University."
