Institute of Water and Environmental Problems

The Institute of Water and Environmental Problems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is organized as the Institute of Water and Environmental Problems of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

The aim and subject of the Institute is to carry out fundamental, exploratory and applied research in the field of water and biological resources, aimed at obtaining and applying new knowledge for environmental protection and rational nature management.

The main research directions of the Institute's fundamental research:

  • Siberian water resources: formation, monitoring and use (based on the basin approach);
  • development of scientific foundations for environmental protection and rational nature management taking into account anthropogenic factors and climate change.

The Institute has several basic departments that provide scientific cooperation and the possibility of internships for students within the educational process:

  • “Fundamental and applied ecology”;
  • “Information technology and physical methods in environmental research”;
  • "Rational environmental management". 

Many employees of the institute are graduates of Altai State University and lecturers at various faculties of the university.
