Dalnauka (Far East Science) publishing house located in Vladivostok has released a monograph titled “Annotated Catalogue of Russian Far East Insects. Volume II. Lepidoptera”, which had been written with the participation of ASU scientists Roman V. Yakovlev and Petr Ya. Ustuzhanin. The book volume looks impressive, as it has over 800 pages and is issued by academic publishing office of Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Science (FEB RAS).

This landmark book includes all known information about taxonomy and population of butterflies in the Russian Far East and neighbouring territories. The work was conducted by a group of authors from such establishments as Zoological Institute under Russian Academy of Science, Saint-Petersburg State University, Institute for Animal Taxonomy and Ecology under Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Science, Institute of Biology and Soil Science under FED RAS, Saratov State University, etc.

“The invitation to participate in work on the catalogue of Russian Far East Lepidoptera was quite expected for us, but gratifying at the same time. Petr Ya. Ustuzhanin and I have broad experience in research of the Russian Far East. I have been to Primorsky Krai, Amur Oblast, Jewish Autonomous Oblast. I have spent in that region about 80 days in total. Petr has spent there even more time. When I was a 19 years old student, I visited Primorye for the first time. I saved some money and went to Ussuriysk by train. More than 20 years have passed since then, and now we have this book published. The Far East is very rich in terms of biological diversity. It is pleasant that we took a small part in research of this large area,” commented Roman V. Yakovlev.
