14 November 2016 Faculty of Biology

Doctor of Biology, Assistant Professor of the Department of Ecology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology Roman V. Yakovlev addressed young zoologists with his plenary report titled “Experience in Taxonomic Research of Understudied Insect Group” at the conference “Relevant Problems of Ecology and Evolution in Young Scientists’ Research”, which took place at M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University on 27–28 October 2016.

“It was a pleasant surprise for me to hear the research topics of young biologists from M.V. Lomonosov State University, I.D. Papanin Institute for Biology of Inland Waters under the Russian Academy of Sciences and higher education establishments of Belarus. Their topic and results are very promising. They conduct research in Georgia, Dagestan, Ethiopia, Kamchatka, Sakhalin and other territories. I see that fundamental science does not only exist in Russia, but develops rapidly. I was impressed by young colleagues’ enthusiasm and optimism. It would be great for Altai State University students to visit such event from time to time in order to understand that fundamental research is an interesting, attractive direction and expand their mental outlook.” commented Roman V. Yakovlev. “Moreover, ASU taxonomists stay in trend, as it is popular to say. The level and quality of our articles, geographical coverage and broad international relations absolutely correspond with world-class standards.”

In the course of two-day trip to Moscow, R.V. Yakovlev studied the materials at the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University for the purpose of solving problems set in joint international project dedicated to the research of endangered insect species inhabiting wetlands of Eastern Europe and Western Siberia. Besides, Roman Yakovlev visited the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa to get a visa, which brings us hope to read interesting materials on ASU entomologists’ trip to Africa soon.
