For the first time in 2023, Nikita Ravochkin, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of Kuzbass State Technical University, received a Master's degree in the field of urban sociology and the development of the urban environment.

In February 2023, the final qualification work on the topic “The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the transformation of youth leisure practices (the case of Kemerovo)” was successfully defended at AltSU.

Nikita notes:

– As a doctor of sciences, I have always been interested in promising trajectories of higher professional education – it was important for me to acquire new practical knowledge in a rather “advanced” master’s program, as well as to meet new people, sociology teachers, who impressed me with their professionalism throughout the course. It was impossible not to take advantage of this opportunity. I want to say that the tracks of the educational program are built very logically, purposefully, they have an interdependent heuristic potential; most of the academic disciplines aim not only to apply knowledge in everyday life, but also tackle challenges associated with the development of city. After completing the master's program, we plan to continue our cooperation - there are already ideas for joint applications for grants, developing joint training courses, holding scientific conferences, etc.

Evgeny Popov, Head of the educational program "Sociology of the city and the development of the urban environment," Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Sociology and Conflictology Evgeny Popov, acted as the supervisor of research for Nikita Ravochki.

Evgeny emphasized:

– The case of studying in the magistracy for candidates of sciences and even doctors of sciences is not uncommon. However, for our magistracy, this is certainly a unique experience, especially since a colleague from a neighboring region was trained. It is pleasant that specialists from other fields show interest in sociological knowledge. Nikita Ravochkin - Doctor of Philosophy, professor, he was an acting dean in one of the largest universities in the Kemerovo Region. Obviously, the interest in the magistracy in sociology is connected both with his professional activities and with the desire to develop interdisciplinary ties at the level of universities in Kemerovo and AltSU. Our cooperation will continue!

The Master's program in Sociology is traditionally of interest to scholars and bachelor's and specialist's graduates from various regions of Russia, as it provides opportunities for interdisciplinary interaction in the study of various social institutions and social practices. In particular, the program “Sociology of the city and the development of the urban environment” allows state and municipal employees, ecologists, urbanists, lawyers and other specialists to acquire professional competencies related to the provision of urban life and the development of the urban economy. Altai State University is the only university which provides training for such specialists.
