Sociologists from AltSU launched a project on the adaptation of migrants in the educational environment

On March 20, the Institute of Humanities of Altai State University hosted the first working day of advanced training courses “Communication technologies and psychosocial practices in working with young people with different stories of migration experience.”

The organizers of the courses implemented within the framework of the project "Inclusive technologies for the integration and adaptation of migrants in the educational environment" with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation and the grant of the Governor of Altai Krai in the field of activities of socially oriented non-profit organizations were the Altai Regional Public Organization of Psychological and Social Support and Health Care "Positive development” together with scientists and faculty of the Department of Social and Youth Policy of IH AltSU.

“The main goal of the courses is to acquire new competencies necessary for professional activities and improve the professional level in the field of facilitating the integration and adaptation of young people with different stories of migration experience in the educational environment,” says Head of the Department of Social and Youth Policy of Altai State University, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, professor Svetlana Maksimova. “The advanced training courses are conducted using innovative educational technologies, including training and practical classes from leading experts, researchers of migration processes in Altai Krai and other border regions of Russia, practicing psychologists and consultants on adaptation and integration of migrants into the host society.”

The advantage of the courses is that their content has been tested in the course of research projects implemented at the Institute of Humanities, supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Russian Science Foundation, the Presidential Grants Foundation for Scientific Schools and Young Scientists, and includes an analysis of best practices and systemic models of adaptation and integration of migrants, implemented in the regions of Russia, innovations in migration and educational policies, sociologists of AltSU emphasize.

The students of the educational program were teachers from Barnaul universities (Altai State Pedagogical University, Polzunov Altai State Technical University, the Altai State Institute of Culture, and AltSU), the International College of Cheese Making and Professional Technologies, teachers of the Altai Regional Children's Ecological Center, the Children and Youth Center of the Industrial District of Barnaul, the House of Peoples of Altai Krai, school No. 15 from Zarinsk, representatives of the Altai regional public organization “Tatar Culture Center “Dulkyn” (Volna), the Public Organization of the Local National Cultural Autonomy of the Kyrgyz in Barnaul “Our Home Altai”, the Centralized Library System of Biysk.

The lectures and practical lessons of the course will cover the following topics: features of interpersonal and intergroup communications in interethnic and interethnic interactions; features of the formation of the image of the "other", "ethical other", methods and techniques of working with young people with different experience of migration; ethno-cultural competence and tolerance, practical forms of effective inter-ethnic interaction of subjects of a multi-ethnic environment; ethnic tolerance; factors determining ethnic tolerance; psychosocial practices in working with young people with different experience of migration, etc.
