AltSU scientist took part in the international publishing project of Saitama University

In October, the Belgrade Logos edition published the fourth issue of the book series "The Far East, Near Russia", prepared by Saitama University (Japan), Gyeongbuk National University (Daegu, South Korea) with the support of the National Research Foundation of Korea and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Dmitry Maryin, Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of General and Applied Philology, Literature and Russian Language, is one of the authors.

This collection entitled “Russian Culture at the Crossroads of History” is the fourth book published in the series “The Far East, Near Russia”. This series, which includes both collections of articles and monographs, was founded in 2015 as part of the Japanese-Korean project, which was one of the first joint ventures of researchers from two East Asian countries dedicated to the study of Russian culture. The book series gave impetus to the creation of a whole scientific network uniting researchers not only from different countries of the East Asian region, but also their colleagues working far beyond its borders.

The collection "Russian Culture at the Crossroads of History" includes articles by participants at an international symposium held in February 2020 at Gyeongbuk National University (Daegu, South Korea), as well as works by other Slavic scholars specially invited to the publishing project from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Hungary. The articles of the collection reflect the variety of the spectrum of cultural phenomena and deal with issues of identity and intercultural contacts, literature, language, history, fine arts, etc. Chronologically, most of the articles in the collection are concentrated around the culture of the Soviet period in the context of cultural transformations of the pre-revolutionary and post-Soviet times.

"Publication of the collection "Russian Culture at the Crossroads of History", in the creation of which took part Dmitry  Maryin, Doctor of Philology, a specialist in the study of the work of our great compatriot Vasily Shukshin, is a significant event for the development of cooperation between Altai State University and Japanese colleagues. One of the editors of the collection, Dean of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Saitama University, Professor Susumu Nonaka, as part of a delegation of Japanese representatives, visited Altai State University in 2018 and took part in a major educational conference and the Congress of the Association of Asian Universities. Since that moment,  AltSU began to interact with Saitama University in a new direction related to Russian culture,” commented Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development Roman  Raikin.

It has been over 30 years of cooperation of Altai State University with universities and scientific institutes in. The main partner organizations of Altai State University in Japan are: Kanazawa University, Hokkaido University, Saitama University, Institute for Cosmic Ray Research at Tokyo University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, National Museum of Nature and Science, Fukui Agricultural Experiment Station. AltSU is a member of the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of Russia and Japan, a representative of the university is a member of the Human Resources Steering Committee of the Association.

Altai State University is also part of a consortium of universities implementing the project "Preparing Tomorrow's Innovation Leaders", led by Kanazawa University and funded by the Government of Japan. Within the framework of the project, a cycle of additional education programs on the topic “Sustainable Development of Regions” and “Specially Protected Natural Areas” (more than 100 participants over the past 5 years) is implemented on an ongoing basis.

Eurasian educational space: new challenges and best practices" on the basis of Altai State University under the auspices of the Association of Russian and Japanese universities and the Training Platform for Japanese-Russian economic cooperation and humanitarian exchanges (HaRP), a Russian-Japanese round table with online participation" Partnerships between Russian and Japanese universities, enterprises and local authorities. Exchange of best practices in training specialists for the regions,” which welcomed over 200 representatives of both countries.
