An expert of "The Greater Altai" from Kazakhstan began to teach the course of the Turkic runic at Altai State University
Professor of the Eurasian National University. L.N. Gumilyova, well-known Turkic linguist Nurilya Shaimerdinova began to teach a semester course on Turkic runic for undergraduates studying at the international joint master's program in Turkic studies within the framework of the "Turkic World of the Greater Altai" project. Professor Shaimerdinova's lectures are held online every Wednesday at 17:00 local time.
- Nurilya Gabbasovna gives this course within the framework of the agreement between AltSU and L.N. Gumilyov ENU about the joint network implementation of this master's program, - said Head of the Department of Oriental Studies of Altai State University, Head of the "Turkology" program, professor Yulia Lysenko. - Last semester, ENU students were enrolled in our university and attended a course on the Altai language, which was taught by Dean of the Faculty of Altaic and Turkic Studies of Gorno-Altaisk State University Surna Sarbasheva. And in the second semester, on the contrary, our students are enrolled in ENU and will attend a course on Turkic runes during the semester.
In total, 11 undergraduates study at the “Turkology” program - eight students of Altai State University and three from L.N. Gumilyov ENU. But, as professor Yulia Lysenko noted, anyone can join the course.
“The course is designed so that by the end of the academic year, students will relatively easily begin to navigate the Turkic runic and will be able to independently read the ancient Turkic texts, for example, on the famous monuments to Bilge-Kagan or Kul-Tegin, as well as on other Orkhon-Yenisei monuments,” added professor Yulia Lysenko.
