Faculty of Biology student took part in International Meeting of Mycologists

On 21–28 August 2016 master’s degree student of the Faculty of Biology Vasily Kelbin took part in the XIV International Workshop on the Study of Macromycetes organized by Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Botanical Society, and Kazan Federal University. The event took place in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.

“As a novice mycologist, I need to attend such events to acquire professional skills and knowledge from the leading specialists in mycology. More than 40 mycologists from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Murmansk, Apatity, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, Portugal, Slovakia, Italy and other places participated in the work of the school. The main part of the program involved mycological excursions to Volga-Kama Nature Reserve, joint work on collecting and defining macromycetes collections. In the evening we had masterclasses in reviewing and classifying main fungi groups such as Gasteromycetes, Meruliaceae, Dyscomycetes and so on. A number of poster reports were presented. At the end of the workshop we made up lists of fungi for every studied territory. Moreover, there were excursions around Kazan organized for the event participants. We visited Kazan Kremlin, Sviyazhsk, Troitsky Cathedral of Raifa Monastery.
