The development of scientists from Altai State University can help in identifying lung diseases in children from remote areas – TASS
The device will help record the child's breathing sounds and then send them to the pediatrician for interpretation. Such work is applicable, for example, in remote villages of Altai Krai and Russia as a whole. In absence of specialized doctors, a paramedic or even parents can simply record breathing sounds and send them for transcription.
The authors of the development are Alexey Piyanzin, an associate professor of the Department of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies of Altai State University, Candidate of Medical Sciences, and students Kirill Bukatov and Ilya Boboshko.
The “smart” phonendoscope consists of a head section attached to the voice recorder with a special connection, which students from the Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies of Altai State University designed and made on a 3D printer. The doctor applies the device to the child’s chest, breathing sounds are recorded and saved on any device (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.). You can listen to them at any time, track the dynamics and eliminate subjective assessment.
Electronic phonendoscopes have been used in the world for several years, but there are no special devices for children that take into account the age characteristics of the body, the developers note.
Currently, Altai State University scientists regularly update the database of respiratory sounds. Using artificial intelligence technologies, it is possible to analyze the noise in the lungs of small patients and make a more accurate diagnosis – for example, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.
In September, scientists from a classical university presented their development in Kyrgyzstan at the Congress of Pediatricians of the CIS countries and the II Congress of Pediatric Surgeons of Central Asia. In addition to the CIS countries, a large delegation of the People's Republic of China, headed by Professor Fuyun Jiao, who is Director of the Hospital Cooperation Alliance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, took part in the Congress. During the Congress, a preliminary agreement was reached on the implementation of the development of Altai State University scientists in the CIS and SCO countries.
