ASU Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development Roman I. Raikin and executive director of Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center Andrey I. Shapoval paid an official visit to Saitama University (Japan).

The program of the visit included the introduction to scientific and technical potential of the Japanese university, level of student research, scientists’ publication activity and so on. Besides, the high level of students’ scientific education at this university is proven by the fact that in 2015 Saitama University graduate Takaaki Kajita together with Arthur McDonald received the Nobel prize in physics for the discovery of neutrino oscillations.

“At Saitama University we were presented its most promising scientific projects related to the development of nanotechnologies, highly-accurate microscopes, research in chemistry and physics. I shared the most recent achievements of ASU Anti-Cancer Center with the young scientists of Saitama University, told them about immunosignatures and our research in the area of early cancer detection.” Andrey I. Shapoval commented on the visit to the Japanese university.

ASU scientist got interested in Saitama University researchers’ work on compounding proteins and nanoparticles, which may be useful for diagnostic tests development. This is one of the supposed directions of Altai and Japanese universities’ collaboration. Japanese colleagues offered Andrey Shapoval to take part in work on international scientific grant realization.

“One of the most important outcomes of our visit has been the establishment of personal contacts,” noted Andrey I. Shapoval. “Informal personal relationship allows communication straight with the scientists and deal with upcoming problems in collaboration quickly and efficiently. This is probably the most important aspect of the joint work.”

It is to be reminded that in autumn 2015 ASU hosted Vice-President for International Affairs of Saitama University, Professor Seiichiro Nakabayashi. In the course of the visit he got acquainted with the structure of the classical university, its academic potential, went to see the classrooms, and negotiated with ASU authorities on the possible cooperation directions.
