AltSU representative office opened at Samarkand State University

1 February 2023 REC of Altaic and Turkic studies “The Greater Altai”

On January 31, within the framework of the working visit of the AltSU delegation to Uzbekistan, an AltSU representative office opened on the basis of Samarkand State University. The representative office will have four divisions - the Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies, the Laboratory for Systematics and Fauna of Terrestrial Arthropod Arid and Mountainous Ecosystems of Central Asia, the Center for Geographic Information Systems, and the Methodological Center for the Promotion of the Russian Language and Culture.

Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development Roman Raikin, Director of the Institute of Humanities, professor of Altai State University Larisa Nekhvyadovich, Deputy Head of the REC of Altaic and Turkic Studies “The Greater Altai”, professor of Altai State University Sergey Grushin, and Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, professor of AltSU Lidiya Dmitrieva.

According to Roman Raikin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development of AltSU, Samarkand and Altai State Universities have a long history of cooperation. SamSU is a member of the Association of Asian Universities, and last year Rector of SamSU Rustam Khalmuradov was elected President of the Association. Projects on teaching and promoting the Russian language, studying and preserving biological diversity, and in the field of GIS technologies are being jointly implemented. In addition, scientists from Samarkand University work as part of the project teams of the REC of Altaic and Turkic studies "The Greater Altai" of Altai State University.

- Opening an AltSU representative office at Samarkand State University, we have laid these four areas of cooperation into its basis. In addition, during the visit, we signed agreements with the leadership of SamSU on the implementation of joint academic mobility programs in philology, foreign regional studies and geography, discussed the launch of joint master's programs, - said Roman Raikin, Vice-Rector of Altai State University.

Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, professor of Altai State University Lidia Dmitrieva said that during the visit, a meeting was held with teachers of the Department of Russian Language of Samarkand State University.

- We had a very interesting conversation. We discussed the creation of a joint master's program in the direction "Philology: language in a multicultural space" and the issues of academic mobility of students and teachers for linguistic and cultural practice. In addition, issues of joint scientific research were discussed within the framework of the project "Turkic World of the Greater Altai" - in particular, a comparative study of Turkic toponyms in the Altai Mountains and Uzbekistan. Specialists who work at Samarkand State University are familiar with the works of Altai toponymists, and we very much hope that further research will be useful for the development of scientific and educational cooperation within the REC of Altaic and Turkic studies “The Greater Altai.”

During the visit to SamSU, representatives of AltSU held face-to-face and online discussions with the participation of heads of educational programs, according to which joint training of postgraduate students and heads of scientific directions is planned.
