The Katun 24 TV channel showed a video about the exhibition of Ychmukhrists that opened in Universum Art Gallery of Altai State University.

Ychmukhrizm is a trend in the contemporary art of Barnaul. It originated at the Novoaltaisk Art School. The name of the direction was given by a figurine of a frog named Ychmukhryu. Over the years, this character has acquired its own mythology.

“Of course, I would like, like any artist, to develop a separate direction, but I see the closest connection to Siberian ironic conceptualism. In modern Siberia, there are artists who are ironic and turn to postmodernism. And we are probably the closest thing to this art,” says Mikhail Churilov, associate professor at the Institute of Art and Design at AltSU.

For 5 years now, the Ychmukhrists have been holding personal exhibitions. According to the participant of the exhibition, Victoria Saraikina, she liked the topic, which initially seemed to be a simple joke, for its uniqueness and absurdity.
But using the form of a joke, the authors talk about problems that seriously worry them.

“The fact is that we are constantly polluting our planet. Here are the parts that are most often found in landfills, in the oceans, in forests. Look around, realize what is happening. See how much waste one person produces. What is here is less than one day,” says Polina Mitrofanova, a participant in the exhibition.

You can view the exposition until February 6, 2021. As part of the exhibition, the management of AltSU Institute of Art and Design is planning to hold an open lecture.
