27 October 2015 Faculty of History

The VIII International Research and Practice Conference “Russia – China: History and Culture” was held at Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University on 8-11 October 2015. The Conference co-organizer was KFU Confucius Institute.

Altai State University was represented by Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies Julia A. Lysenko and Assistant Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies Inna V. Anisimova. The participants included more than 70 people from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Nizhniy Novgorod, Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, Ulan-Ude, Poland, Bulgaria and China.

At the plenary session the reports on sinology were delivered by such leading scientists as Doctor of History, Professor of RAN Institute of Oriental Studies A.I. Kobzev, and Doctor of History, Professor of Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation A.V. Semenov. The main focal area of the Conference was the discussion of problems dealing with Russian-Chinese relations and China’s external policy, as well as the topical issues of philology and Chinese language teaching methods.

Young sinologists’ works were interesting to observe. J.A. Lysenko and I.V. Anisimova were speaking at Russian-Chinese Relations workshop. The list of the report topics was quite broad: from oriental mentality peculiarities to understudied aspects of Russian-Chinese relations. The speech of senior researcher of RAS Institute of Far Eastern Studies A.L. Valerchenko, devoted to unexplored issues of Soviet-Chinese relations shortly before the World War II, was intriguing. Much attention was given to reports on the history of sinology formation in Russia and current trends of Russian-Chinese cooperation.

At the Conference closing session KFU Vice-Rector for External Relations L.N. Latypov and Director of KFU Confucius Institute G.G. Zainullin emphasized the necessity of further cooperation between the Conference participants. As a result of the Conference, a collective volume will be published.
