The 3rd regional student business game on lean manufacturing was held at the center “My Business”. The game was organized within the framework of the national project “Labor Productivity” by the Ministry of Economic Development of Altai Krai together with the Altai Center for Cluster Development.

Note: lean manufacturing is a concept for managing a manufacturing enterprise, based on the enterprise’s constant desire to eliminate all types of losses. Lean manufacturing involves the involvement of each employee in the optimization process and maximum customer focus.

The business game took place in the form of the “factory of processes”. This is a training and production site where participants gained experience in using lean manufacturing tools in a real production process. The Altai State University team consisted of third-year students from MIEMIS in the “Economics” and “Public and Municipal Administration” majors.

The guys had a task to organize the production of control panels for gas equipment. Students assigned roles: operators, quality specialists, logisticians, etc. The game had three rounds/shifts of 20 minutes each, during which they had to collect a certain number of control panels. The trainer, who played the role of the customer, received the finished product from the guys and checked its quality. But the main thing is the financial result.

“In the first round, the guys gained minus. They had to think about thet way to optimize their production to be successful. For example, they moved tables together, reducing production space. It became easier for the logistician to get to the desired desk. They also assembled a mockup that helped determine whether the parts were assembled correctly. As a result, in the last, third round, they worked with a positive financial result and fulfilled the plan. With the help of this business game, students learned from a live example what we covered in practical classes and lectures. Until recently, we did not know how our opponents played. It was nice to know that we won,” said Anton Krivosheev, student mentor, teacher at the Department of Management, Business Organization and Innovation at MIEMIS.

“Today’s dynamically developing economic conditions place special demands on market participants. Increasing the efficiency of an enterprise by mobilizing internal resources is what a successfully developing company strives for. Similar requirements apply to employees. Therefore, it is so important to show students in practice ways to increase productivity. The business game on lean manufacturing is exactly about this,” said Sergei Korennov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Altai Krai, Head of the Department of Innovative Development and Cluster Policy.
