11 September 2023 Institute of Humanities

A personal exhibition of the Altai painter, master of art history, member of the Union of Artists of Russia Anton  Kondakov opened in the “Universum” gallery of the Institute of Humanities of Altai State University.

As part of his new exhibition, called “In the Rays of the Fading Summer,” the famous artist presented thirty paintings, twenty of which are being exhibited for the first time.

“In my works I follow the theme of the Russian landscape, in which I depict the beauty of my small homeland. This exhibition brought together works made over the past two years, which presented unforgettable views of the Altai Mountains, rural landscapes with the inclusion of small still life elements, and the outskirts of Barnaul – the old city. Moreover, each of my paintings carries a certain meaning. It doesn’t just depict mountains and rivers, fields and forests, houses and elements of Russian life, but there is a kind of confrontation between the old and new world, light and shadow. For example, in pictures of rural life there is a short story about a person, his work and everyday worries,” says Anton Kondakov.

“For students of the classical university, in particular, of the Institute of Humanities, getting familiar with works of classical art is very important. Anton Kondakov is precisely an adherent of the Russian realistic school of painting. As a graduate of the Novoaltai Art School, he never betrays this creative method and the direction of Russian realism. He follows this path, he implements it, and he does it very well,” noted Irina Chernyaeva, Head of the Department of Arts at the Institute of Humanities of AltSU, Candidate of Art History, an associate professor, at the opening of the exhibition. "Our teacher, Tamara Stepanskaya, being a graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, always instilled in students, like us now, the desire to follow the traditions of classical art history. Anton Kondakov completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with us, supplementing his art education with art history, and now he can realize his full creative potential on a full scale.”

Anton Kondakov is a participant in exhibitions of the Altai regional organization of the Union of Artists of Russia. His works were part of the exhibitions “Plein Air”, “Colors of May”, “Vasily Shukshin”, “Winter Holidays”, “Summer”, “Az.Art. Siberia”. In 2023, his painting “Calm sea” won the audience vote at the largest zonal exhibition “Siberia - XIII”, among 1,500 works presented.

The exhibition will run until September 25, 2023. from 10:00 to 17:00. Days off: Saturday, Sunday.
