Director of the Institute of International Affairs of Altai State University Ivan Nazarov took part in the Day of Kumandin Culture

On December 23, the regional event “Day of Kumandin Culture” took place at the House of Peoples of Altai Krai. The holiday was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Altai regional public organization of the Kumandins  “Toreen Cher” (Motherland). Ivan Nazarov, Director of the Institute of History and International Affairs of Altai State University was invited to attend the event.

The event brought together the Kumandins from Krasnogorsky District, Biysk and Barnaul interested in preserving their culture.

The holiday began with a consecration ceremony performed by a Kumandin shaman. Exhibitions of traditional crafts, books about Kumandins and fiction in the Kumandin language were presented. Participants of the event were able to taste dishes of the national cuisine and listen to Kumandin folk songs.

Participants of the Kumandin organization “Toreen Cher” (Homeland) were welcomed by the consultant of the Department for the Implementation of State National Policy of the Department of Administration of the Governor and Government of Altai Krai on interaction with the federal government bodies Tatyana Lisenkova, Director of the House of Peoples of Altai Krai Natalya Razgonyaeva and Director of the Institute of History and International Affairs of Altai State University Ivan Nazarov.

In his welcoming speech, Ivan Nazarov noted the important role of Kumandin social activists in preserving the language and traditions of their people. Modern practices of the Kumandin people in developing ethnic culture are successful and known far beyond the borders of Altai Krai. Ivan Nazarov noted the strong ties of the Institute of History and International Relations with Kumandin organizations and expressed hope that the next anniversary of the organization "Toreen Cher" will be celebrated at the federal level.

“The Institute of History and International Affairs has been cooperating with Kumandin organizations in our region for many years. Scientific ethnographic research is being carried out, educational and other projects are being implemented aimed at the development of Kumandin culture. And starting from this year, students from among the Kumandins are studying at the Institute of History and International Relations. I hope that the established cooperation will receive further development!” noted Ivan Nazarov.
