On December 17, a delegation from the Republic of Buryatia visited Altai State University. The delegation included the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Denis Garmaev; his deputy, Vitaly Khamarkhanov; and Elena Kostyuchenko, consultant for the Department of Entrepreneurship Development Infrastructure.
The delegation visited Altai Krai to exchange experience in the development of medicinal plant cultivation and the production of dietary supplements. The first day of the delegation's work was dedicated to Altai State University, where research on medicinal plants is a key focus of the strategic technological project in biotechnology implemented under the Priority 2030 development program.
The guests met with Altai State University Rector Sergei Bocharov, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Development Alexei Vaganov, and Director of the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology Sergei Smirnov.
Sergey Bocharov spoke about the university's scientific potential and key natural science departments engaged in the study of medicinal plant cultivation. As a reminder, Altai State University is the only university in the region that houses the South Siberian Botanical Garden, which features unique plant collections.
"It's a pleasure to see you! My colleagues will show you around the university today, and I hope we can identify promising areas for collaboration. Our university is a participant in the Priority 2030 program, and the topic of technological sovereignty is close to our hearts. Although we are a traditional university rather than an industry-specific one, we have several major research areas that are recognized at the federal level in both the natural sciences and the humanities."
The rector also spoke about the activities of the Greater Altai Research and Educational Center, the Altai State University Space Monitoring Center, the Altai-Falcon Rare Birds of Prey Nursery, the South Siberian Botanical Garden, and other research departments of the university.
Buryatia's Minister of Industry, Denis Garmaev, spoke about the region's scientific potential, highligting the development of medicinal plant cultivation and dietary supplement production. He expressed interest in collaborating with Altai State University and emphasized that several areas presented by university representatives during the meeting were highly relevant for Buryatia. The guests showed particular interest in developing technological maps and agricultural methods for cultivating medicinal crops, assessing the region's bioresources, and learning Altai State University's experience in transferring scientific research into practical applications within the real sectors of economy.
The delegation was given a tour of the university and introduced to the achievements of its researchers.
