On February 27, Academician Valentin Parmon, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Siberian Branch, visited Altai State University as part of a working trip to Altai Krai.
A delegation of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences headed by Valentin Parmon arrived in Barnaul to launch the work of the Altai Branch of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The academic assembly of the Altai Branch includes 53 scientists from various scientific and educational institutions of higher education under the scientific and methodological guidance of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, including Sergey Bocharov, Rector, Doctor of Economics, Professor; Evgeny Anichkin, Doctor of Law, Professor; Olga Goncharova, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor; Anatoly Lagutin, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor; Yulia Lysenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor; Alexey Tishkin, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor; and Alexander Shmakov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor.
After the academic meeting, which took place in the government of Altai Krai, the delegation members visited Altai State University. In particular, Valentin Parmon, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, was interested in the work of the Prombiotech engineering center.
Rector Sergey Bocharov and the employees of the engineering center, headed by Director Alena Irkitova, spoke about the center's work on the development, evaluation of efficiency, scaling and implementation of biopreparations for the agro-industrial complex. Sergey Bocharov especially emphasized that the university has experience in transferring ready-made samples to an industrial partner for further scaling in industrial installations. Thus, in 2024, the first enzyme, phospholipase-C, was transferred to the Sibbiopharm company.
Following the academic meeting at the government of Altai Krai, the delegation visited Altai State University. Valentin Parmon, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, showed particular interest in the Prombiotech engineering center's work.
Rector Sergey Bocharov and the center's director, Alena Irkitova, discussed the center's focus on developing, evaluating, scaling, and implementing biopreparations for the agro-industrial sector. Sergey Bocharov highlighted the university's experience in transferring developed samples to industrial partners for further scaling. Notably, in 2024, the first enzyme phospholipase-C was transferred to Sibbiopharm.
Valentin Parmon showed particular interest in the Prombiotech strain collection, which includes over 100 strains, with 15 of them being deposited. He also inquired about the enzymes used, the fermentation process, and the center's industrial partners.
"I am not a direct biotechnologist, but my department at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences focuses on industrial biotechnology for large-scale production, not for food purposes. I do not rule out the possibility of continued collaboration with your university to find common ground," Valentin Parmon noted.
He emphasized that "today was a significant day for the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and even more important for Altai Krai, as scientists launched the Altai Branch of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences." This new structure aims to enhance coordination among all scientific and educational institutions in Altai Krai, enabling them to jointly address set tasks and interact with the regional government.
"One of the key institutions in Altai Krai is Altai State University, which is among the best in Russia and is part of the Priority 2030 program. I hope that the ongoing work here will facilitate entry into other programs, such as the engineering centers program," Valentin Parmon concluded during the meeting.
