On May 20, the scientific library of Altai State University hosted an event dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture.

The guests included international students from the Preparatory Department of the Institute of Humanities of Altai State University, as well as university students. They learned about the history of the holiday, explored the significance of Saints Cyril and Methodius in the development of Slavic writing, and delved into the world of Russian folk tales. The most enthusiastic and expressive participants performed the fairy tale "Turnip." The cast featured Aibolat Aishuakh (Mongolia), Khumarbek Akhbota (Mongolia), Sita Sharon (Zimbabwe), Siyomunji Alfred (Zambia), Yin Wenkai (China), Nayim Uddin (Bangladesh), and Svali Mustafa (Uganda). After the performance, the students shared stories about the national fairy tales they had heard or read in their childhoods.

The calligraphy master class, led by Tatyana Golubeva, Head of Barnaul’s first "Calligraphy School," proved highly engaging. The guests practiced Russian ligature, uncial, and semi-uncial scripts, using ink as well as metal and bird feathers. The feathers included goose, turkey, owl, and falcon. At the end of the event, the participants wrote notes with well-wishes to each other as keepsakes.

They also had the opportunity to explore books printed in Cyrillic, such as the "Psalter of Following" (1639), the "Kormchaya Book" — a collection of church and secular laws (Catherine’s edition, 1787), and a handwritten Old Believer "Service Book" from the late 18th to early 19th century.

The event was prepared and held by the staff of the scientific loan department of the humanities of the Altai State University library. The library staff would like to express their gratitude to Alena Kintsel, Head of the Preparatory Department for foreign students of the Institute of Humanities. And also to Mikhail Ageyev, a lecturer of the Preparatory Department for foreign students.
