Сontainers for separate waste collection designated for collecting plastic bottles, caps, and batteries were installed on the basement floor of building L of Altai State University.
Altai State University is actively involved in environmental initiatives as a member of the "Green Universities of Russia" association. The university hosts an environmental club called "Under the Open Sky," where students participate in city environmental campaigns and conduct educational activities on environmental topics. In September 2024, the university signed cooperation agreements with two non-profit organizations: the regional branch of the all-Russian environmental public movement "Ecosystem" and the autonomous non-profit environmental organization "Closed Cycle Economy."
Another "green" practice has been introduced at the university, as noted Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Activities, Candidate of Biological Sciences Tatyana Antonenko:
"As part of the ESG agenda (ESG – “ecology, social policy and corporate governance”), we installed containers for separate waste collection in collaboration with Alfa-Bank. This is not merely a trend; it is a conscious necessity. It represents a crucial step towards fostering an ecological culture and promoting a responsible attitude towards the environment. Utilizing secondary raw materials in production generally requires less energy and results in less air and water pollution compared to using primary resources. Therefore, the university must support student initiatives in ecology and collaborate with organizations committed to sustainable development, recycling, and preserving biodiversity in their native region and across Russia."
The containers for separate waste collection were installed just a few days ago, but they are already filled with bottles, caps, and batteries. This demonstrates that students and staff are practicing conscious consumption and are committed to doing everything possible to enhance the environmental situation in the region.
