Scientists from ASU presented their leading developments at a meeting of the scientific expert council for the biotechnology development under the governor

Divo Altaya LLC, the largest producer of vegetable oil in Siberia, hosted a visiting meeting of the scientific expert council for the biotechnology development under the governor of Altai Krai. This event was chaired by Alexander Lukyanov, Deputy Chairman of the regional government.

During the meeting, Sergey Kuzmin, General Director of Divo Altaya LLC, spoke about the company’s operations. Irina Popova, Deputy Head of the Altai Krai Department for Food, Processing, Pharmaceutical Industry and Biotechnology, presented a report on achievements in advancing priority areas of biotechnology in Altai Krai.

Alexey Vaganov, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Development spoke about scientific developments in biotechnology at ASU. His co-speakers were Dmitry Shcherbakov, Maxim Kutsev, Director of the Research Institute of Biological Medicine at ASU, and Alena Irkitova, Deputy Director for Science at the South Siberian Botanical Garden and Director of the Engineering Center "Prombiotech."

Alexey Vaganov emphasized that the primary objective of the scientific policy of Altai State University is the transfer of innovative products and technologies that hold commercial potential and can be implemented in the interests of the technological development of Altai Krai, Russia and the broader Greater Altai region. He elaborated on strategic projects of the ASU development program, priority areas of scientific and technological development, and the scientific divisions of the university engaged in biotechnology research.

Dmitry Shcherbakov presented the development of producers of recombinant proteins, enzymes and biologically active substances. He also spoke about the development of methods for the complex processing of plant materials, competencies and methods developed by scientists from ASU.

Maxim Kutsev's report focused on the development of analytical equipment, such as a fluorimeter for measuring the concentration of proteins and DNA, a cytometer for measuring the size of genomes, and a bacterial cell counter. He also addressed innovations in plant protection products, including growth stimulator, biopesticides and biofungicides, and the creation of test systems.

Alena Irkitova spoke about the capabilities of the Engineering Center “Prombiotech” and the ongoing projects led by scientists, which include laboratory research, development of products and technologies for the production of biologically active substances, and production development, etc. She provided details on the probiotic for aquaculture and animals "Aquabacillin" and the microbial biopreparation for the protection and stimulation of plant growth "Fitopumillin" manufactured at Prombiotech.

"Altai State University showcased its leading developments in biotechnology, we received a positive response from interested council members. In September 2024, Divo Altaya also served as one of the production sites for industrial tourism during the Bio-Asia-Altai forum, organized by our university," Alexey Vaganov summed up.
