Ethnocultural Study of Turkic World: Art Practices and Creative Industries

The development of global information space actualizes ethnic values, new meanings and connections appear in the culture of Turkic-Mongolian peoples of the Greater Altai, which is clearly seen in contemporary art practices. The impulse to the development of this sphere is creative industries, where the unifying idea is always the creative component, but at the same time the role of new technologies and discoveries is high. The decisive role at this stage of the art market development will be played by the competent staff and project teams that are able to actively develop and implement cultural and educational strategies in the field of cultural exchange and humanitarian cooperation with foreign countries and regions.

The institutions providing diplomatic, foreign economic and other contacts on the territory of the Big Altai will also be interested in modernization of management, since the state as an investor will have to differentiate financing already in the nearest future depending on management efficiency in organization of international profile projects. Thus, the demand for specialists knowledgeable in the specificity of Turkic-Mongolian ethnics on the territory of the Greater Altai, which is gradually forming now, may increase dramatically in the coming years.

The goal of the program is to train highly qualified, competitive Russian and foreign personnel to develop and implement programs for the organization of cultural exchanges and humanitarian interaction related to intercultural communication in the territory of the Greater Altai.

Creative economy and creative industries, creative approach in development of territories, individual talent and professionalism are trends of our time. Today the art critic is a fashionable international profession. The Altai State University has been producing masters in art history for more than 10 years; a scientific school of art history has been formed. The new profile of the program "Ethno-cultural study of the Turkic world: art practices and creative industries" forms the new competence-organizational, managerial and entrepreneurial.Key disciplines: ethnic culture and modern art practices of the regions of the Big Altai; ethnography of the peoples of the Big Altai; creative industries: theory and practice; strategic business and art management; art history methodology; attribution and examination of artworks; modern means of visual communication; modern art and art market; development and presentation of sociocultural projects.Full-time education

The program is implemented by the Scientific and Educational Center of Altai and Turkology of the Altai State University "Great Altai".

What training you get

The program is interdisciplinary (implemented jointly with the Department of Journalism Theory and Practice), because its uniqueness lies in the conceptualization and creation of the layout of a multimedia project, corresponding in its subject matter to the research of graduate students. In work on the project the author gets an opportunity to analyze the material of his research, proceeding from the task of its visualization and structuring of the material for the solution of research / educational tasks.The graduate has the opportunity to convey the content of the main points of his research in different forms: text, sound, image, video, animated graphics, etc. The multimedia project can be implemented in the formats of a longread, a web documentary project, a multimedia guidebook, etc.

In addition, we build a unified educational path for undergraduates with the prospect of continuing postgraduate studies in the field of education 5.10. Art History and Culture and the subsequent defense of a thesis for the degree of candidate of art studies in the scientific specialty 5.10.3 Art forms (Fine arts, decorative and applied arts and architecture).

Characteristics of the graduated specialist:

  • to be professionally guided in key questions of art history taking into account specificity of ethnoculture in territory of Big Altai, to be guided in the Russian and foreign sources on the given subjects (taking into account their actuality and authority);
  • know the tools of information gathering and analysis, decision making, strategic analysis and development of strategies and plans in organization of cultural exchanges, humanitarian interaction related to intercultural communication;
  • to be able to analyze the mutual influence of ethno-cultural and artistic traditions of the Turkic-Mongolian world of the Greater Altai and evaluate the changes in contemporary art practices;
  • to be able to form an expert position on ethno-cultural problems of the Turkic-Mongolian world, to present it orally and in writing, to prepare presentation materials;
  • be able to form a project proposal - from the conceptual framework to planning its implementation, to present it in a structured way in the form of a document and present it to potential "buyers";
  • be a professional customer of research and applications used in organizing exhibitions, presentations, auctions, and other events related to foreign regions of the world.

  • heads of educational programs of HE, VPO and cultural-educational centers, art galleries, research institutes, antique showrooms.
